One problem = one original Polyplast solution!
As with the creation of most of our solutions, the development of a new part begins with a customer’s need and request. A customer tells us about a problem and asks us to create a customized solution.
In the case of our latest solution, a mining company was looking for a solution to the problem of debris thrown up when blasting underground. Moving debris following an explosion poses a danger to on-site equipment and appliances, especially underground conduits, ventilation pipes, electrical wiring and anything else in the perimeter. All equipment is at risk in the event of a large-scale explosion.
An alternative to rubber
So we had to create an original part that could cushion and minimize the impact of moving debris following an explosion, while protecting underground installations, and allowing relatively simplified installation of these new polyurethane components.
Parts of this type are normally made of rubber, which has a limited lifespan because it is less resistant than polyurethane. Rubber is also heavier. When hooked, its weight causes it to be damaged by the explosion, making it unusable after a detonation.
Polyurethane, a material with many advantages
Polyurethane has the advantage of being stronger and lighter. What’s more, the solution we’ve created is reinforced with a material that increases its strength around the holes used to attach it. The part can therefore be reused for a few more explosions.
Its design is also designed to simplify installation. Since a piece of this type has to be hung high up, the installer has to climb into a gondola to install it manually. The holes used to hang our solution are positioned to facilitate installation. As a result, the installer spends less time in the basket to install and uninstall it.
A new protection solution is born!
The result is BOOMPAD, a polyurethane protection panel; we call it a “protection pad” in our jargon. The panel measures 104.14 cm x 91.44 cm x 1.27 cm (41″ x 36″ x ½”) and weighs 18.6 kg (41 lb). Its durability and efficiency are enhanced. BOOMPAD offers many other advantages, including easy storage by stacking the parts flat on top of each other for compact storage.
